Robin Hunter Blake's 'Severe Mercy'
Severe Mercy is a body of work built around ideas of love, memory, time, hurt and metaphysical alchemy. Its foundations lie within the ideas, writing and works of people who, in part, help the world understand how artistic compulsion, phenomenology, time and space stem from subconscious or conscious subjective perception instead of an objective reality.
The exhibition includes works on aluminium, screen prints, framed silver gelatine photographs, a large-scale kinetic installation and a series of abstract moving images. Severe Mercy conquers a number of visual experiences all asking the same questions and offering different answers in the form of duration, ambiguity and response.
In order to create the conversation between the sculptural and functional presence amongst the body of work, STUDIO IRON carefully curated a select number of design pieces from its roster to sit throughout the show, demonstrating the gallery’s ability to curate a common narrative across mediums and disciplines.
